Directing Workshop

Directing assignments will be created for each student, whose work will be analyzed by the instructor and other members of the workshop. Students will also study script analysis and the formulation of a director’s point of view; staging and visual storytelling; the musicality of language; collaboration and rehearsal techniques; productive methods of critique; and the spectrum of responsibilities and search involved in directing plays of different styles.

Reading/Writing assignments:
100-200 pages per week

Requirements/Grading:
Design Project – 10%
Oral Presentation(s) – 20%
Class/Precept Participation – 30%
Other (See Instructor) – 40%

Other Requirements:
Not Open to Freshmen.

Prerequisites and Restrictions:
Prerequisites: THR 201, other performance class, design class or other significant experience; and by permission. Please contact Elena Araoz (earaoz@princeton.edu) for enrollment permission.

Other information:
“Other 40%” is for the final project, a 20 minute theater piece each student will direct and produce during reading week or exam period. This course may be taken a second time for credit with a different instructor.
