October 6 & 7, 2017 7:00 p.m. October 8, 2017 2:00 p.m. Hearst Dance Theater, Lewis Arts complex TICKETS: $8 students; $12 seniors $12 general admission in advance $17 day of the event A Love Supreme is a quartet choreographed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and Salva Sanchis in which four performers dance to the eponymous music of John Coltrane, a highlight of twentieth-century jazz. In A Love Supreme, highly intuitive free expression emerges from blues-based, rather straightforward musical structures; the work is renowned for its exploration of the tension between tonal and rhythmical complexity and simplicity. This is translated literally in the dance: the choreographers bring together improvised and composed materials, interweaving and absorbing them into one another. Together with a new cast of young performers, De Keersmaeker and Sanchis have reworked A Love Supreme into a full evening program.
