Sophie Gandler’s senior thesis production of Eric Overmyer’s On the Verge, or The Geography of Yearning opens May 27th at the Matthews Acting Studio.  The production features three graduating seniors who have been regulars on the Princeton theatrical scene.

In Overmyer’s fantastical comedy, three Victorian lady travelers set out into the unexplored wilderness of Terra Incognita, boldly going where no man — or woman — has gone before.  The journey forward offers a succession of mysteries and pleasures as the ladies must confront the unprecedented challenges of the landscape, encounters with increasingly odd natives, and their own internal obstacles. Prepare to be delighted by Overmyer’s witty wordplay and won over by the ladies’ courage, intelligence, and charm, as embodied by Laura Hankin (My Fair Lady), Veronica Siverd (Alice), and Stacy Testa (Sondheim’s Company). The four-person cast is completed by Willie Myers ’11 (Zach and Willie).

Sophie Gandler is an English concentrator pursuing a certificate in Theater. During her time at Princeton, she has directed three shows at Theatre Intime, as well as working as a lighting designer, stage manager, and graphic designer for shows with Theatre Intime, the Princeton Shakespeare Company, the Princeton University Players, and the Program in Theater.  She also served as the Production Manager of Theatre Intime and the Graphic Designer for the Princeton Shakespeare Company. According to Gandler, “I wanted to direct this show because it is incredibly fun and funny, but also because it speaks to the excitement and trepidation that I am feeling as a college senior preparing for a new stage in my own life.”
