Sō Percussion (Princeton University Edward T. Cone Performers-in-Residence) is proud to announce the 2016 Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SōSI), a beloved and established part of Princeton’s summer culture activities. With almost 40 participants descending on Princeton, SōSI will be celebrating 15 years of new works for percussion quartet. Many of those works were developed right on campus by Sō with the fantastic composition faculty of Princeton University’s Department of Music.

Although recruiting students from all over the world, SōSI is all about Princeton: from the program’s many public concerts in the community, to its annual food-packing event for the Mercer County Crisis Center, to the staggering slate of world premieres by Princeton-based composers.

The Sō Percussion Summer Institute (SoSI) is an intensive two-week chamber music seminar for college-age percussionists and composers. The four members of Sō Percussion serve as faculty in rehearsal, performance, and discussion of contemporary music. This year’s focus is on our biggest commissions from the last 15 years, with works by Paul Lansky, Steve Mackey, Dan Trueman, Steve Reich, David Lang, Cenk Ergün, and Bryce Dessner.

All SōSI events are free, and audiences of all ages are welcome.

The opening concert, featuring Music for Wood and Strings (Bryce Dessner), takes place at 7:00 p.m. in the Marie and Edward Matthews ’53 Acting Studio at 185 Nassau Street.
