On Wednesday, July 15, a panel of three choreographers chose 2015-17 Princeton Arts Fellow Pavel Zustiak, choreographer and founder of the Palissimo Company, for the 2015 Juried Bessie Award.

The New York Dance and Performance Awards (The Bessies) are New York City’s premier dance awards honoring outstanding creative work in the field. This year’s Bessies jury — Director of the Program in Dance at the Lewis Center Susan Marshall, Shen Wei, and Reggie Wilson — named Zuštiak as the recipient of the 2015 Juried Bessie Award for his “poetic layering of movement and visual imagery, conceiving the stage space as a decentralized world in which the corporeal body is the focus and canvas for a wide range of human expression.” The award provides Zustiak with touring and residency opportunities outside of New York through a partnership with the arts network of the New York State DanceForce.

Only two 2015 awards were presented at a press conference on July 15, while the rest will be announced at the 31st Annual Bessie Awards on Monday, October 19, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. at the Apollo Theater in New York City.

More information, along with the full list of nominees, is available at the Dance/NYC website.
