Patrick McGrath is the author of eight novels, including Asylum, an international bestseller. Martha Peake: A Novel of the Revolution won Italy’s Premio Flaiano Prize. His second novel, Spider, was filmed by David Cronenberg from McGrath’s script. Trauma, published in 2008, was shortlisted for Britain’s Costa Award. A new novel, Constance, will come out in April 2013. He has also written two collections of short fiction, including Ghost Town: Tales of Manhattan Then and Now. His work is published in more than two dozen countries.
Patrick McGrath’s recent nonfiction includes the introduction to the Oxford World’s Classics edition of Moby Dick, and the Folio Society’s edition of Barnaby Rudge. He has taught creative writing at the University of Texas at Austin, and at both Hunter College and the New School in New York. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature in the UK, and a member of PEN America and the Writers Guild of America East.
He was born in London but has lived in Manhattan for more than thirty years.
