About

Sarah Stern is Artistic Director of Vineyard Theatre in New York City, an award-winning Off-Broadway theatre company dedicated to new work and support of artists. Her work with the Vineyard includes the world-premieres of more than sixty plays and musicals, including five shows which transferred to Broadway: Paula Vogel and Rebecca Taichman's Tony Award-winning INDECENT; Lopez, Marx and Whitty’s AVENUE Q (three Tony Awards, including Best Musical); Bowen and Bell’s [title of show]; Kander, Ebb & Thompson's THE SCOTTSBORO BOYS; and Nicky Silver's THE LYONS. Other notable Vineyard premieres include David Cale's HARRY CLARKE, Tarell Alvin McCraney's WIG OUT!, Jenny Schwartz' GOD'S EAR, Ben Katchor and Mark Mulcahy’s THE SLUG BEARERS OF KAYROL ISLAND, Becky Mode’s FULLY COMMITTED, Will Eno's MIDDLETOWN, Branden Jacobs-Jenkins’ GLORIA (Pulitzer Prize finalist), and new plays by Rajiv Joseph, Anne Washburn, Christopher Shinn, Ngozi Anywanu, Jordan Harrison, Colman Domingo and more. She is proud to have brought a new generation of voices to the Vineyard stage, and to have helped launch the Vineyard’s Paula Vogel Playwriting Award and Susan Stroman Directing Award, given annually and biennially to early-career artists of exceptional promise.

Sarah's dramaturgy and consultant credits include productions on and off-Broadway and on the West End, for Warner Brothers, Ambassador Theatre Group, New Georges, Clubbed Thumb, Voice and Vision, Northern Ireland’s Exiles Theatre, and more.

Sarah is a graduate of Cornell University's College Scholar Program.
