Creative Writing Course Enrollment Information

Beginning in Fall 2022, Introductory Creative Writing Courses are open to all; no application required. Advanced classes require departmental permission to enroll. Students may only enroll in one CWR course per semester. Review the specific guidelines for enrollment for each course below.

Fall 2022 Course Enrollment Guidelines

CWR 201 — Introductory Poetry

No Prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program is unable to maintain a waiting list. If reserved seats remain available during Add/Drop, you may write to Katie Welsh at Kwelsh@princeton.edu for enrollment assistance.

CWR 203 — Introductory Fiction

No Prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program is unable to maintain a waiting list. If reserved seats remain available during Add/Drop, you may write to Katie Welsh at Kwelsh@princeton.edu for enrollment assistance.

CWR 205/COM 249/TRA 204 — Literary Translation

No Prerequisites and restrictions. Open enrollment.

CWR 301 — Advanced Poetry

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to enrollment. Please indicate prior qualifying classes and obtain enrollment permission via a Google doc* that will be posted here beginning at 12 PM on March 28, 2022. CWR 303 — Advanced Fiction

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to enrollment. CWR 305/COM 355/TRA 305 — Advanced Literary Translation

CWR 345/AMS 345/GSS 383 — Writing Political Fiction

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed one 200-level CWR course prior to enrollment. CWR 348/VIS 348 — Intro to Screenwriting: Writing the Short Film

*Students may only enroll in one CWR course per semester. You may list your name on only one Google doc per semester in order to indicate your prerequisites and obtain enrollment permission.
