Creative Writing Course Enrollment Information

Introductory Creative Writing Courses are open to all; no application required. Advanced classes require departmental permission to enroll. Students may only enroll in one CWR course per semester. Review the specific guidelines for enrollment for each course below.

Spring 2024 Course Enrollment Guidelines

CWR 202 — Introductory Poetry

No Prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 202. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 204 — Introductory Fiction

No Prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 204. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 206/COM 315/TRA 206 — Literary Translation

No Prerequisites and restrictions. Open enrollment. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 206. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 302 — Advanced Poetry

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to enrollment. For enrollment permission, please register for CWR 302.

CWR 304 — Advanced Fiction

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to enrollment. For enrollment permission, please register for CWR 304.

CWR 306/COM 356/TRA 314— Advanced Literary Translation

No Prerequisites and restrictions. Open enrollment. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 306. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 310 — Writing from Life

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two 200-level CWR courses prior to enrollment. For enrollment permission, please register for CWR 310.

CWR 347/VIS 340 — Screenwriting: A Visual-Temporal Approach

Prerequisites and Restrictions: No prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 347. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 349/VIS 349 — Intro to Screenwriting: Writing for a Global Audience

Prerequisites and Restrictions: No prerequisites. Open enrollment. Three seats are reserved for first-year students, 3 seats for sophomores, 2 seats for juniors, 2 seats for seniors. The program maintains a waiting list. If you are unable to secure a seat, please register your information for CWR 349. If reserved seats remain or become available during Add/Drop, Creative Writing Program staff will reach out to students on the waitlist with enrollment assistance.

CWR 405/VIS 405 — Advanced Screenwriting: Writing for Television

Prerequisites and Restrictions: Students must have completed two CWR courses prior to enrollment. For enrollment permission, please register for CWR 405.

 

*Students may only enroll in one CWR course per semester. You may list your name on only one Google doc per semester in order to indicate your prerequisites and obtain enrollment permission.
