This course will explore storytelling in a compositional, music-and-sound based form resulting in a final performance by the participants of their own works. Members of the renowned percussion quartet So Percussion and Grammy® nominated vocalist, composer, and performance artist Theo Bleckmann will guide the students in creating their own songs and performance pieces, drawing from texts of the most various sources. Guest speakers will include Jen Shyu, Natalie Joachim, Helga Davis, and Caroline Shaw. Participants are not required to be able to read music. Texts in the class will come from different sources, including “found” texts.
