This exhibition’s title is also its verb — anticulation.

It is a word, created for this show, that aims to capture the particularities of black, gay, and black gay archival practices. That is, what it means to articulate one’s self in anticipation of a world that can actually grasp the nuance of that same self. In a survey of work from 11 black artists, anticulation offers a vivid ethnography of an idea.
