The Program in American Studies presents a virtual reading with writers Karan Mahajan and Jenny Xie ’08 as part of the Asian American Studies Lecture Series. Audience Q&A follows the reading.

Karan Mahajan is the author of Family Planning, a finalist for the International Dylan Thomas Prize, and The Association of Small Bombs, which was shortlisted for the 2016 National Book Award, won the 2017 Young Lions Fiction Award from the New York Public Library, and was named one of The New York Times 10 Best Books of 2016. In 2017, he was selected as one of Granta’s Best of Young American Novelists. His reporting and criticism have appeared in The New York Times, Vanity Fair, The New Republic, The New Yorker online, and other venues. He is an assistant professor at Brown University.

Jenny Xie is the author of Eye Level, a finalist for the National Book Award and PEN Open Book Award, and recipient of the Walt Whitman Award from the Academy of American Poets and the Holmes National Poetry Prize from Princeton University. She has been supported by fellowships and grants from Civitella Ranieri Foundation, Bread Loaf Writers’ Conference, New York Foundation for the Arts, and the Vilcek Foundation. She lives in New York City, and has taught at NYU, Bard College, and Princeton.
