Events

Labyrinth Books, the Princeton Public Library, and the Lewis Center for the Arts present a reading and a conversation between award winning novelist and Lecturer in Creative Writing Daphne Kalotay and celebrated author Suzy Hansen. Kalotay’s new book, Blue Hours, links Manhattan circa 1991 to eastern Afghanistan in 2012. Hansen is author of Notes on a Foreign County, which tells the story of an American abroad in the era of American decline.

Blue Hours tells of a life-changing friendship between two memorable heroines. Anchored by an uninvited voyage into an extraordinary place, with a love story at its core, it combines the adventure and moral complexity of Lillian Hellman’s Julia and Ann Patchett’s State of Wonder to tell a global story at an intimate level. In its ethical provocations, Blue Hours becomes an unconventional page-turner, confronting Americas role in the conflicted, interconnected world.

Daphne Kalotay is the award-winning author of Calamity and Other Stories, Russian Winter, and Sight Reading. She teaches in the Program in Creative Writing at the Lewis Center for the Arts.

Suzy Hansen is the author of Notes on a Foreign Country, which was a Finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Nonfiction and a New York Times Book Review Notable Book. She is a writer for the New York Times Magazine.

ALEXANDER BRIDGE CLOSURE

Alexander Street, between Lawrence Drive in Princeton and Canal Pointe Boulevard in West Windsor, will close for about six months beginning on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, for road construction.

Construction makes traveling to campus more time consuming. Traffic congestion from all routes to campus during peak times (weekdays, 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.) will be higher than normal. Drivers traveling to campus along Route 1 will see the greatest delays.

Visit bridgeclosure.princeton.edu for the most current information on detour routes, parking, and tips for planning your visit to campus.
