“when will i lay my head to rest
and slumber in a peaceful dream?”

England is at odds with itself. Elizabeth struggles to maintain the throne on her Protestant isle. Mary seeks asylum from her cousin, but is met instead with imprisonment in a tower. Leicester is torn between the two queens he dared to woo. Traitors hide in the shadows, waiting for the day they may assassinate Elizabeth and free their Catholic queen, Mary. In this new translation and adaptation of Friedrich Schiller’s Mary Stuart by Princeton senior BT Hayes, duty collides with the will of the masses, and two powerful rulers meet face to face in a story of death, betrayal, and hope.

Directed by BT Hayes and featuring senior Regan McCall as Mary Stuart and as set and assistant lighting designer on the production. At a pre-show talk starting 30 minutes before curtain time at each performance, BT Hayes will discuss her challenges in adapting and translating the verse of Schiller’s play in German as well as directorial choices in bringing this new adaptation to the stage.
