Join Princeton’s Program in African Studies and the African School of Economics for a two-day conference, “The Origins and Legacy of the Agodjie: The Female Warriors of the Kingdom of Danxome,” based on professor Leonard Wantchekon’s groundbreaking research used for the upcoming movie, The Woman King (Sony Pictures).

This interdisciplinary conference aims to bring together historians, anthropologists, political scientists, artists and scholars of African studies to probe into the legacy of the Amazons of Danxome to inform research on gender norms in pre-colonial societies and their implications for contemporary research and policy practice.
