The Program in Theater presents Phèdre in a new translation after Jean Racine by Marc Decitre.

Phèdre’s role of faithful wife and nurturing mother begins to fall apart as her growing attraction to her stepson leads to the unleashing of forbidden desires, lies and scandal, and the downfall of a once noble family. This ancient Greek tragedy is retold in a new forthright translation by Princeton alumnus Mark Decitre ’18 after Jean Racine’s classic French play. Princeton senior J Sansone takes on the challenging role of Phèdre, mining the deep emotions of a woman who is an unwelcome outsider, in a spare and exposed production directed by faculty member Suzanne Agins.

A talkback with translator Marc Decitre follows the April 6 performance.

Tickets are $10 students (or FREE for Princeton students using Tiger Tickets through Passport to the Arts), $12 seniors, $12 general public in advance, $17 purchased the day of performances at the box office. Purchase tickets online at McCarter Ticket Office or reserve tickets in person at the box office. Online orders and phone orders through the McCarter Ticket Office for single tickets are subject to a handling charge of $6 per order plus $3 per ticket.
