ABOUT HILDEGARD

HILDEGARD

A new musical in development
Book by ETHAN KRUPP
Music by DAVYD REDDYK
Directed by ELIZABETH SWANSON ’12

Hildegard spans the latter 40 years of the life of Hildegard of Bingen. This 12th-century abbess and someday-saint was a composer, philosopher, visionary, and pre-Reformation reformer. Our musical tells her story through her own music, remixed and reworked into modern pop arrangements. Act I explores the Christian concept of suffering as the three parts of the Holy Trinity narrate (and intercede in) Hildegard’s journey towards composing the world’s first recorded musical drama. Act II explores faith and justice as Hildegard attempts to reform the Roman Catholic Church from within.
