f9c6f71b-5072-4edd-a91c-350478fafa11Princeton University Creative Writing professor Tracy K. Smith is featured on the cover of the March/April 2015 issue of Poets & Writers magazine.

In her extraordinary new memoir, Ordinary Light, Pulitzer Prize–winning poet Tracy K. Smith embraces a fuller sense of herself as a writer while cementing the connection between her children and her ancestors using the best glue she knows: words.

An excerpt from the memoir was published online by Graywolf Press. Smith writes, “Seamus Heaney had been my teacher two years in a row at Harvard. After I graduated, and returned home to California to be with my mother as she battled end-stage cancer, his voice as a teacher and a poet served as a kind of beacon of insight and hope in my life.” Read the excerpt …

Ordinary Light is the first memoir by Smith, whose book “Life on Mars” won the Pulitzer Prize in Poetry in 2012.

She will be reading at the Free Library of Philadelphia with poet Elizabeth Alexander on May 4, 2015. Learn more …
