Brooke Shields Discusses Her New Memoir with Faculty Member Idra Novey

Actress, model and author Brooke Shields ’87 joined Lewis Center for the Arts Lecturer in Creative Writing Idra Novey at Richardson Auditorium for a discussion about her memoir, Brooke Shields Is Not Allowed to Get Old: Thoughts on Aging as a Woman, during a recent Wintersession event.

Shields, who served as a past advisory council member for the Lewis Center for the Arts, discussed society’s perceptions about gender and age and talked about her newfound confidence as an entrepreneur and author. She also described her time at Princeton as “four years of safety,” where she felt protected by her fellow students and gained confidence in herself.

“This is the first place that I felt the freedom to understand my own thoughts,” she said. “My favorite memory is just that this was a place of protection and safety for me when the world was not necessarily prone to wanting to protect me.”

This Wintersession event was presented by the Office of Community and Regional Affairs in partnership with the Friends and Foundation of the Princeton Public Library and was held on January 15, 2025.
