Hi! My name is Mariana Corichi Gómez. I'm a senior in the Music Department, and am pursuing certificates in Conducting Performance, Latinx Studies, and Music Theater. I was born and raised in Mexico City and currently reside in Morelia, Mexico, but spent a big chunk of my teenage years in Central Pennsylvania. Within my arts communities in Pennsylvania and Princeton, I have been one of the few women of color pursuing a career in classical music, and am often the only Latina in music classrooms and small ensembles. I've been extremely fortunate to find supportive and empowering mentors while at Princeton, but have definitely struggled to navigate predominantly white male spaces, especially in conducting and composition. One of my most memorable classes at Princeton, Movements for Diversity in American Theater taught by theater professor Brian Herrera, opened my eyes to artists of color's ongoing fight toward authentic representation, storytelling, and leadership. Since then, thanks to the Theater Program's warm environment and constant conversations around marginalized performers, I have slowly pieced together my artistic identity, and I am continuously working toward incorporating latinidad into my western classical training and independent projects. I've been extremely grateful to receive financial support from the Lewis Center to study and perform music abroad during the summers, which would never have been accessible to me and my family on our own.

On campus, I'm the conductor of Princeton Camerata, the campus' chamber orchestra. I sing in Princeton Glee Club, Chamber Choir, and have previously worked with Trego Singers and Decem. I've been in a couple of Theater department shows, and I am lucky to collaborate with my inspiring classmates, even remotely. As a prospective conductor/educator, I hope to build and sustain accessible music education programs to slowly deconstruct the current privilege imbalance across the music industry. Please feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you simply want to chat about anything!
