Visual Arts faculty member Eve Aschheim joins National Academy Class of 2017

On Thursday, November 16, Lecturer in Visual Arts Eve Aschheim was inducted into the National Academy of Design Class of 2017 as a National Academician, one of the highest honors in American art and architecture. She joins 19 other professional artists and architects — all elected by their peers — who represent some of the most distinguished practitioners in their respective fields.

Since its founding in 1825, the National Academy of Design has followed a simple yet powerful mission: To promote the fine arts in America through exhibition and education. Over 2,100 members have been elected to the Academy as National Academicians, all of whom serve as ambassadors for the the arts in America.

Eve Aschheim is an abstract painter and draftsperson. Her works of art are held in many museum collections, with pieces most recently acquired by The National Gallery, Washington, D.C.; University Museum of Contemporary Art, UMass, Amherst; and Kupferstichkabinett, Nationalgalerie, Berlin. She has received grants from organizations including the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, the Joan Mitchell Foundation, and the American Academy of Arts and Letters. Aschheim began teaching at Princeton in 1991, serving as director of the visual arts program from 2004-07. Each year she teaches introductory drawing and painting courses offered by the Program in Visual Arts.
