The Program in Visual Arts presents two exhibitions of new work by Princeton seniors Alice Wang and Susan Liu:
nostalgia
nostalgia is an exploration of introspection. While the term is now largely associated with bittersweet memories and positive connotations, nostalgia was initially used to characterize what we now know as mental illness. The show is presented through this historical lens. The exploration takes place through personal memory and is heavily influenced by “the yellow wallpaper.” Liu engages with the text through multiple sensory modalities and constructs experiences that challenge the conception of memory creation. She emphasizes our suspension within the present moment and our perpetual inability to fully access the past. Through this, the viewer is challenged to grapple with the manipulability of memory, the mediation between chaos and control, and the passage of time.

SQUARE 1
In her senior thesis show, Alice Wang uses pipe-cleaners and white rice (among other unconventional media) to explore the systematic yet whimsical nature of child development.
