An introduction to the craft of acting through scene study monologues and, finally, a longer scene drawn from a play, to develop a method of working on a script. Emphasis will be placed on honesty, spontaneity, and establishing a personal connection with the scene’s substance.

Careful preparation of exercises and/or text study of scenes for work in class. Preparation time averages 8 to 10 hours weekly.

Applications for THR 201 are now closed. If you are interested in taking the course but did not fill out an application, please contact the instructors directly. It is likely both sections will be full, but it’s worth a try to show up to the first meeting of the section you are interested in, as sometimes people who have registered change their plans.

Students must attend class regularly and have assignments prepared on the proper day. GRADING: 50% based on performance in assigned scenes, monologues and exercises. This course will meet during the Reading Period. Students are advised that this is the best place to begin their theatrical studies at Princeton, no matter what your previous level of experience. {Class of 2019 has spaces reserved in this course.}
