Elisabeth Subrin, a director and artist who creates works in film, video and installation, will present a talk about her works that blur the lines between documentary, experimental and narrative forms and that explore intersections between cultural history and subjectivity through a feminist lens.

About Elisabeth Subrin

Subrin is an award-winning director and artist known for her use of re-enactment. Her work has been screened and exhibited widely in the US and abroad, including at Cannes, Film Society of Lincoln Center, The Vienna Viennale, The Whitney Biennial, and film festivals globally. A Sundance Fellow, Subrin’s work includes her 2016 feature film, A Woman, A Part, and her most recent film, Maria Schneider, 1983, which premiered at The 75th Cannes International Film Festival and has been nominated for a César for Best Documentary. The Listening Takes, her multi-channel video, sound and sculptural installation, is currently on view at the David Winton Bell Gallery at Brown University through June 4, 2023. Subrin received a BFA in Film from the Massachusetts College of Art and an MFA in Video from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago. Following appointments at Amherst, Harvard, Yale, Cooper Union and SAIC, she is currently Professor of Film and Media Arts at Temple University.
