Painting has always entailed artists establishing a particular link between thinking, seeing and making. This course explores a variety of possible “equations” by which a painting gets made. Students will experiment with different media and approaches: direct observation, ways to use photography, digital images and post-digital imagery. Translation and transformation will be emphasized. Experimentation will provoke students to work in new and unpredictable ways, as well as enable them to discover and develop their own artistic preoccupations. Slide lectures, critiques, and weekly assignments with readings are integrated into studio practice.
Reading/Writing assignments:
Weekly reading and writing assignments will be determined based on topics and projects for that week.
