Advanced Studies in Acting: Scene Study and Style

A practical course focusing on advanced performance techniques for Shakespeare’s texts, including scansion of verse, decoding of linguistic cues, and contextual understanding, paired with vocal and physical techniques for clarity of speech, enhanced breath support, and voice projection, which, together, allow for informed, grounded, honest, free and exuberant in-the-moment acting choices when performing of all types of characters—from tragic, to comic, to clown. We will also practice some stagecraft sword fighting. The course will use monologues and scenes from King Lear and will culminate in a public performance of sections of the play.
