composition:

  1. the nature of something’s ingredients or constituents; the way in which a whole or mixture is made up; the action of putting things together; formation or construction.
  2. a work of music, literature, or art; the action or art of producing a work of music, literature, or art; the artistic arrangement of the parts of a picture.

Join us for an exhibition showcasing the work of students participating in the pedagogical experiment called Radical Composition — a spring seminar/workshop taught by Visiting Professor Tina Campt that examines the radical possibilities of collaboration. Its point of departure is a conception of collaboration as fundamentally a process of radical composition through which collaborators bridge different modalities of creative expression spanning multiple media, forms and practices. The exhibition features work by groups of students in this spring course that created collaborative (re)compositions of the visual frequencies of a series of historical and contemporary image-texts. Visitors are invited to engage the collaborative compositions assembled in the show, celebrate the challenging work of creative collaboration, and embrace it as a fulsome model of radical composition.

Featuring the work of RC Collaborators:

  • Tobi Ajayi and Dani Ball
  • Christien Ayers, Collin Riggins and Nemo Newman
  • Miles Wilson, Amy Torres and Izzy Hilditch
  • Maya Keren, Maia Julius and Niara Hightower
