De Humani Corporis Fabrica (2022) is an immersive journey inside the contemporary human body, filmed within French public hospitals. Directed by Véréna Paravel and Lucien Castaing-Taylor of the Sensory Ethnography Lab at Harvard University, the film uses radical proximity and sound to explore flesh, labor, technology, and care, transforming medical spaces into a visceral cinematic experience.
April 7 at 7:30 PM
Screening of Mundane Histories with filmmaker Anocha Suwichakornpong
This first full-length 2009 feature by the Thai film maker Anocha Suwichakornpong tells the story of a bitter young man who is paralyzed from the waist down after an accident and has been appointed a new nurse. Their relationship is cool, and his authoritarian father, who seldom shows his face, is also not a model of warmth and understanding. In long, neutral scenes separated by hard cuts, the contours emerge of a restrained psychological drama in which the young man’s cynicism slowly makes way for a renewed, cautious attempt to explore life.
