ARTHUR OU, Artist

Arthur Ou works in photography, sculpture, and installation. He deploys photography within the contexts of these differing elements to elicit questions concerning modernism, assimilation, historiography and documentation. He has exhibited internationally, most recently at LAXART in Los Angeles and IT Park Gallery in Taipei. Other selected solo exhibitions include To Preserve, To Elevate, To Cancel at Hudson Franklin in New York (2007); On Every New Thing There Lies Already the Shadow of Annihilation at IT Park Gallery in Taipei, Taiwan (2005); and Faces at the Taipei Fine Arts Museum (2000). He was included in the 2006 Taipei Biennial, Dirty Yoga, curated by Dan Cameron. He has also been included in numerous group exhibitions in Los Angeles, New York, Chicago, London, Vancouver, Innsbruck, Berlin, Dresden and Beijing. His work has been featured in publications including Aperture, Blind Spot, Art On Paper, North Drive Press, Art in America, and The Photograph As Contemporary Art, new edition (Thames and Hudson). He has published critical texts in Aperture, Afterall.org, Artforum.com, Fantom, Foam, X-Tra, and Words Without Pictures. He holds an M.F.A. from the Yale University School of Art, and a B.F.A. from Parsons The New School for Design. He is the Director of BFA Photography and an Assistant Professor in the School of Art, Media, and Technology, Parsons The New School for Design.
