Creative Writing Professor Yiyun Li Receives Princeton’s Behrman Award for the Humanities

Director and professor of creative writing Yiyun Li has received Princeton University’s Howard T. Behrman Award for Distinguished Achievement in the Humanities.

Li is the author of ten books, including The Book of Goose, which was among The New Yorker’s Best Books of 2022 and recently won the 2023 PEN/Faulkner Award for Fiction, and Where Reasons End, winner of the PEN/Jean Stein Book Award. Her work has been translated into more than twenty languages. She is the recipient of fellowships from the MacArthur and Guggenheim Foundations, as well as the prestigious Windham Campbell Prize and a Literature Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, among others.

Li, who joined the Princeton faculty in 2017, was nominated for the Behrman Award by academic colleagues across the University. One faculty member who nominated Li for the award noted,

“Those of us who are her colleagues find ourselves asking how she accomplishes so much, both as a writer and as a professor who has taught compelling, demanding and highly rated (by our students) workshops in the time she has been with us.”
