The Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) announced the 2024 Circle of Excellence Award winners, including a Silver Award for a video highlighting Christopher “Unpezverde” Núñez and Maysoon Zayid’s work as Princeton Arts Fellows and collaborative efforts in support of access, inclusion, and disability justice.
A written transcript of the video is also available.
The project, led by the Lewis Center’s multimedia specialist Zohar Lavi-Hasson, included additional design, copy editing, and production support by most members of the team in the Lewis Center’s Office of Communications, along with assistance from Elaine Milan, Fellowships Program Associate.
The video feature showcases how, over the course of three years, Núñez and Zayid deepened conversations about accessibility in the arts through a variety of courses, performances, and workshops at the Lewis Center. At Núñez’s suggestion to broaden access beyond standard closed captioning, the team worked to produce the video in additional formats featuring American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation and audio description.
CASE’s Circle of Excellence Awards are the premier recognition program for educational advancement. The peer-selected and adjudicated CASE Awards honor colleges, universities, and schools worldwide whose talented staff have advanced their organizations with resourcefulness and ingenuity. CASE acknowledges that projects given the Circle of Excellence Award “are the creative, inspiring projects that impact institutions and their communities—and transform lives around the globe.”
In the award announcement honoring the video produced by the Lewis Center, the judges note: “We appreciate the focus on disability inclusion. The video clearly conveys the message and impact, showcasing a well-curated program. The piece is engaging, well told, and expertly edited… Thoughtful packaging of the video and story, including considerate distribution methods. The high-quality images and interviews make this an awesome piece.”
