Arts At Work Alumni Day Provides Students with Creative Career Advice

More than 30 alumni volunteer panelists and 75 students participated in the second annual Arts At Work Alumni Day, which took place at the Lewis Arts complex on April 29. Arts At Work Alumni Day, open to all undergraduate and graduate students, provided a day of career-focused panels and conversations illustrating a variety of career paths available to those who may be interested in pursuing creative jobs after graduation.

The event opened with a keynote brunch panel on Arts & Social Impact Careers, featuring Creative Director of REDCAT Katy Dammers ’13; Director of Princeton University’s Program in Journalism Eliza Griswold ’95; and theatrical producer Adam Hyndman ’12. The conversation was moderated by Lewis Center for the Arts Executive Director Marion Frieman Young ’00.

The day continued with a series of program-specific career conversations featuring Princeton alumni currently working in, or pursuing, creative professions.

Program in Visual Arts Director Jeffrey Whetstone led the Visual Arts Career Conversation featuring alumni Gabby Chu ’18, Wendi Yan ’23, Helen Lin ’18, Dylan Fox ’22, Lily Healey ’13, Victor Guan ’21, Anna Berghuis ’19, Neeta Patel ‘16 and Elise Rise ’15.

Alumni Ryan James Brandau ’03, Anthony Roth Costanzo ’04 and Heather O’Donovan ’16 participated in a Music Careers Conversation moderated by Dasha Koltunyuk ’15.

A Creative Writing Career Conversation, led by Associate Professor of Creative Writing Katie Farris, included alumni Cassandra James ’23, Sash Bischoff ’09, Claire Schulz ’24, Mohammad Adnan ’19 and Noa Greenspan ’23.

Alexis Branagan ’11 moderated a Dance Careers Conversation featuring alumni Clark Griffin ’18, Storm Stokes ’24, and Anna Jayne Kimmel ’18.

Director of the Program in Theater & Music Theater Jane Cox served as moderator for a Theater & Music Theater Career Conversation featuring alumni Emily Murray ’23, Julien Alam ’23, Tessa Albertson ’20, Jaime Goodwin ’22, Eliana Cohen-Orth ’21, Mel Hornyak ’23, Elliot Valentine ’23, Gabriela Veciana ’24 and Ryan Gedrich ’16.

The day concluded with a pizza and networking reception.

The Arts at Work program is designed to provide Princetonians with a supportive arts and creative community and opportunities to learn about the realities of life and work in various creative fields. Arts At Work Alumni Day was co-sponsored by the Center for Career Development, Lewis Center for the Arts and Department of Music.
