Gwendolyn Alker is a teacher, scholar, dramaturge and curator of events that seek to move between the theory and practice of performance. She is currently the Director of the Theatre Studies Program at New York University’s Drama Department, where she has been on the full-time faculty since 2003. She teaches in the area of gender, Latinx performance, and embodiment. She is the former editor of Theatre Topics, the former managing editor of Women & Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory, and has published widely in venues such as Theatre Journal, Drama Therapy Review, TDR, Dance Research Journal, and the AAUP Bulletin. Upcoming publications include a chapter in the edited collection, Contingent Faculty: A Labor History, and 50 Key Figures in Queer US Theatre. As a dramaturge she collaborated with Michelle Memran on the award-winning documentary, The Rest I Make Up, and with JoAnne Akalaitis on the Maria Irene Fornes Marathon at The Public Theater.
