Television director Angela Barnes will screen her work as a professional director and discuss her approach to directing episodic television, her experience of a being a Black woman in the industry, and the benefits of inclusive hiring behind the camera. Barnes visits as a guest to assistant professor Moon Molson’s spring visual arts course on narrative filmmaking.

Angela Barnes is an Atlanta-based television director. She started her career as an assistant director and is a graduate of the highly competitive Director’s Guild of America’s Assistant Director Training Program. She got her first break at episodic directing on the television show Eve. She was an ABC/Disney Directing Fellow and was a selected participant of both the Fox Global Director Initiative and the Fox Comedy Apprentice Program. Since then, she’s directed projects for Starz, Apple TV, Netflix, CW, BET, FX and CBS, including the shows Blindspotting, Mythic Quest, Teenage Bounty Hunters, One Day at a Time, Life in Pieces, and the upcoming season of Atlanta. Currently, Angela is prepping a new series for Marvel Studios in between cooking dinner, checking her kids homework, and driving them to karate class.
