Alex Volckhausen ’93, a professional Stage Manager and member of Actors’ Equity Association with 30 years of experience with management on Broadway, Off Broadway, Regional Theater, leads a seminar to explain the basics of stage managing for dance, non-musical, and musical theater.
The philosophy behind the craft of stage management as it relates to the actual job, from preproduction through tech through the run of a show, will be explained and discussed in practical terms. Attendees will be given examples of a stage manager’s paperwork for: blocking notes and how to take them; tracking props and costumes in rehearsal and performance; the basics of scheduling and communication. Stage management positions and their functions within a live performance team will be featured too, from running the stage deck and backstage areas to writing and calling technical cues for lights, sound, fly-rails and set moves. Sponsored by Princeton Triangle Club.
