As We Evolve is a final-stage showcase of the artists in the fall 2024 semester course, VIS 235: “Futurity of Art in Public Spaces: Site, Materials, and Community,” led by artist and educator Gi (Ginny) Huo, who is a 2024-26 Princeton Arts Fellow. As We Evolve explores the concept of metamorphosis within the shifting notion of public space and the built environment. The works question the evolving relationship of the artist to a site and the community, situated within the front lawn of Princeton University’s 185 Nassau Street. Created iteratively throughout the semester in a collaborative effort between undergraduate policymakers, scientists, engineers, and anthropologists, the public sculptures embody an evolution of the collective “we”: artists, materials, narratives, spaces, and viewers like you. The artists of As We Evolve invite viewers to undergo their own personal evolution with the works at this landmark event.

The public art installation is free and open to the public and will be on view outdoors from December 5-13 on the front lawn at 185 Nassau St.
Following the outdoor installation, opening remarks will take place on Dec. 4 at 4 p.m. as well as an opening reception from 4-5 p.m. Reception inside 185 Nassau St. is open to Princeton University students, faculty and staff.
