A film/video course introducing the techniques of shooting and editing digital video. Works of film/video art will be analyzed in class to explore the development of, and innovations in, cinematic language. Production will be oriented toward film/video as a visual art, including narrative, documentary, and experimental genres. Several short video projects will be produced during the semester.
Reading/Writing assignments:
Production of short video sequences, editing and revising these exercises, and ultimately completing video compositions.
Other information:
GRADING: There are several structured assignments, involving lighting, shooting, editing, sound recording and post-production as well as aesthetic, visual and cultural concerns. Most are short video projects, one is a script for the final video project. There are normally around 5 projects; but this may vary depending on on-going pedagogical and logistical concerns. Grading is determined by the degree to which a student engages in creative media problem solving.
