abstract purple image with orange text overlayPrinceton University hosts Forward Fest, a monthly online series that continues throughout A Year of Forward Thinking. The event features Princeton faculty and alumni exploring a range of forward-thinking topics. Sparking dialogue among the entire Princeton community — students, faculty, staff, alumni and other interested thinkers — Forward Fest explores, engages and develops bold thinking for the future.

December’s Forward Fest focuses on the Arts and Humanities and will feature a panel discussion at 4 p.m. and an Arts Showcase at 8 p.m. All events are free and open to the public.

PANEL

In this time of physical distancing, our need to remain connected to one another is one thing that signals our humanity. Professors in a variety of disciplines talk about how humanistic inquiry provides a useful lens for thinking about our current times and how reflecting on art and visual culture, music and literature helps us uncover connections that help us think forward new ideas in a variety of domains. Featured panelists include:

  • Rachael Z. DeLue, Christopher Binyon Sarofim ’86 Professor in American Art; Professor of Art and Archaeology and American Studies; Chair, Department of Art and Archaeology
  • Beatriz Colomina, Howard Crosby Butler Professor of the History of Architecture; Professor of Architecture; Co-Director, Program in Media and Modernity
  • Elizabeth Hellmuth Margulis, Professor of Music; Director, Music Cognition Lab
  • Autumn Womack, Assistant Professor of African American Studies and English; Charles G. Osgood University Preceptor
  • Moderated by Rakesh Satyal ’02, Novelist, writer, executive editor at HarperCollins

ARTS SHOWCASE

The virtual showcase includes:

  • Four original dance works created by Princeton students led by faculty for Princeton Dance Festival Reimagined exploring dance in the virtual environment.
  • Musical performances by Music Department faculty, students and Princeton’s Glee Club
  • A short film by a recent Visual Arts graduate
  • A short film on Maya Lin’s public art works The Princeton Line and Einstein’s Table
  • A short film on Maria Berrio’s The Augur at Princeton University Art Museum
