The Department of French and Italian and L’Avant-Scène, the French Theater Workshop, presents “Mon pays de terre rouge” by Nicolas Girard-Michelotti.

As a terrible drought rages, young Queen Ava must cope with the famine that is striking her people. Worried and overwhelmed by grievances, she takes refuge near an extraordinary tree that has the power to summon the dead. There, Ava finds her missing mother, the great Queen Suniva. But one day, Nako, a peasant woman, makes a discovery: the tree is evil and must be cut down. No one wants to believe her. Why cut down the kingdom’s most precious resource?
