Stuart Singer
About
Stuart Singer is a Brooklyn-based performer, choreographer, and teacher.
As a performer, Stuart maintains ongoing collaborative relationships with choreographers Beth Gill, John Jasperse, Gwen Welliver, Joanna Kotze and Pam Tanowitz, and director Andrew Ondrejcak. From 2012-2015 he toured internationally with the revival of the Robert Wilson/Philip Glass Opera, Einstein on the Beach. He has also recently worked with the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company (2004-2008), the Lucinda Childs Dance Company (2011-2015), Doug Varone and Dancers (2009), Wally Cardona, Jack Ferver, Christopher Williams, Yanira Castro, Netta Yerushalmy, Kevin Wynn, Lindsay Clark, Takehiro Ueyama, Kazuko Hirabayashi, Daniel Charon, and Mollye Maxner. He was the recipient of a 2014 New York Dance and Performance "Bessie" Award for Outstanding Performer for his work in John Jasperse's Within Between, and was recently named one of Dance Magazine's 2015 "25 to Watch."
Stuart's choreographic work has been shown in NYC at Dance Theater Workshop and the Joyce SoHo, as well as at Bard College, Shenandoah University, Skidmore College, SUNY-Purchase College and the Academy of Music in Northampton, Massachusetts.
Stuart has taught on faculty at Bard College, Bennington College, SUNY-Purchase College Conservatory of Dance, American Dance Festival's Summer and Winter Intensives, Peridance Capezio Center, and the New York State Summer School of the Arts. He is a teaching artist for New York Live Arts and the Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Dance Company; he has restaged the works of Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane at Princeton University, California State University-Long Beach, Montclair State University, Bard College, and the American Dance Festival. Recent guest teaching includes Mount Holyoke College, Virginia Commonwealth University, Middlebury College, Welseyan University, Skidmore College, SUNY-Purchase College Conservatory of Theatre Arts and Film, University of North Carolina School of the Arts, and Mimar Sinan University (Istanbul).
Originally from Western Massachusetts, Stuart studied at the Pioneer Valley Performing Arts Charter High School and is a BFA graduate of the SUNY-Purchase College Conservatory of Dance.
