About

Prospective Students

Whether you’re an aspiring artist with pre-professional training, a self-taught artist interested in pursuing formal instruction, or a novice who is curious to tap her creativity, the Lewis Center for the Arts has something to offer you.

Arts are a core part of the Princeton experience—but by design, you cannot major in a Lewis Center program. Instead, committed students of the arts may pursue one or more minors in Creative Writing, Dance, Theater & Music Theater, or Visual Arts as a complement to academic work in their chosen major. Students who do not pursue minors may still take creative courses as part of a varied and challenging curriculum.

This flexible balance is borne of Princeton’s emphasis on a well-rounded liberal arts education, and the recognition that the interplay between creative work and academic research often forges new pathways and possibilities. Our distinguished alumni can attest to this.

If you’re curious to learn more about what the arts at Princeton may have in store for you, please explore the resources below and contact us for more information when you’re ready for a closer look. The arts are also a vibrant part of campus life, and there are numerous student groups in a wide variety of creative and performing arts disciplines.

Visiting Princeton

Please let us know when you will be on campus and we may be able to arrange a tour of Lewis Center facilities, a meeting with faculty, or an opportunity to observe a class, depending on the program and subject to availability.

* Please note: your visit is not about auditioning or interviewing, but to gain a better understanding of Lewis Center programs. A visit or meeting does not take the place of any admission requirement for Princeton University.

Visit the Princeton University Admissions website for directions to campus, interactive maps, and more details about planning a visit.

Applying to Princeton

The Arts Supplement is an optional form that can be included with your Princeton application. It gives applicants who have excelled in a creative field a more flexible place to share their work for consideration alongside the rest of their college application materials.
