Events

This co-curricular dance class series, curated by dance alum Lauren Auyeung ’19, develops a diverse understanding of hip-hop’s foundational forms. With an emphasis on physical techniques, the class exposes dancers to the many dance forms that exist under the umbrella of hip-hop. Through the sessions, students will understand the basics of hip-hop’s form and will also be challenged to synthesize elements of groove, musicality, texture, footwork, and personal expression in their own individual improvisation. All experience levels welcome.

About Lauren Auyeung

Lauren Auyeung is a dancer, choreographer, musical artist, and alumnus of Princeton University. She holds an MFA in Creative Practice from Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance in London, UK. Lauren has over four years of teaching experience in hip-hop dance. She is passionate about researching the cultural histories of Afrodiasporic dance and expanding its representation in higher education. She has worked with dance artists including Marguerite Hemmings, James Cricket Colter, Abby Zbikowski, Raphael Xavier, and more. Since graduating from Princeton in 2019, Lauren has been coordinating the Hip-Hop Techniques and Foundations co-curricular courses, bringing in new hip-hop artists from the NYC and Philadelphia community every semester. As an artist, Lauren has choreographed three full-length works for stage and immersive spaces, and she has also written, recorded, and released music under the artist name, LORAIYA.
