French-Senegalese actor Adama Diop joins Seuls en Scène for the first time, accompanied by musicians, to present a reading-performance of Aimé Césaire’s masterpiece Cahier d’un retour au pays natal.
This groundbreaking work by Aimé Césaire, mixing poetry and prose, and published in 1939, revolutionized French Caribbean literature by reflecting on the identity of Black Africans in colonial settings and inventing a new literary style.
Adama Diop pursues his foray into the form of reading-performance after creating a similar reading-performance at Festival d’Avignon 2023 on the writings of French poet Kery James. With his dedicated musicians, he offers the premiere of a work that he hopes to continue develop.
Performance in French. Duration: 1 hour.
