The Programs in Theater and Music Theater welcome back recent professional performer alumni Sam Gravitte ’17 and Feyisola Soetan ’19 in this new co-curricular series focusing on performance and audition techniques. Please pay close attention to the schedule, since the needs of auditions and rehearsals for young professionals may occasionally necessitate relatively short-notice changes to the topic of a class.

Spring Class Schedule

  • Feb. 6 from 5:15-6:45 PM — Scene Study: Character Development, led by Feyisola Soetan (Kerr Studio)
  • Feb. 13 from 7:30-9 PM — Musical Theater Audition Techniques: Uptempo/Pop-Rock, led by Sam Gravitte. *Note: Students will need to bring sheet music with them or email that beforehand to Sam Gravitte at samgravitte@gmail.com
  • Feb. 20 from 5:15-6:45 PM — Audition Techniques: TV/Film (Self-Tapes), led by Feyisola Soetan (Kerr Studio)
  • Feb. 27 from 7:30-9 PM — Musical Theater Audition Techniques: The Ballad, led by Sam Gravitte. *Note: Students will need to bring sheet music with them or email that beforehand to Sam Gravitte at samgravitte@gmail.com
  • March 20 from 5:15-6:45 PM — Audition Techniques: Voiceovers (Animations, Radio Plays, and Commercials), led by Feyisola Soetan
  • March 27 from 7:30-9 PM — Audition Techniques: Mastering the Monologue, led by Sam Gravitte (Kerr Studio)
  • April 3 from 5:15-6:45 PM — Audition Techniques: On-camera Commercials, led by Feyisola Soetan
  • April 10 from 7:30-9 PM — Camera Mechanics and the Art of Self-Taping, led by Sam Gravitte (Kerr Studio)
  • May 3— Feyisola + Sam co-lead a class on topic TBA (Berlind Rehearsal Room)

About the Alumni Guest Artists

Feyisola Soetan is a writer-actor from New York with an MA in Writing for Stage and Broadcast Media from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama. She studies acting at the Identity School of Acting in the UK and received her Bachelor’s degree from Princeton in 2019, where she studied Anthropology, Theater, and Gender Studies in an intersectional way. Her recent performance credits include appearing as a supporting character in a TV series called Shatter Belt, alongside comedian Patton Oswalt. She has also recently played the titular role in a radio play called Rapunzel Alone. Her stage credits include Processing… with Theatre East and Eclipsed with the McCarter Theatre. She writes TV pilots and feature films in addition to stage plays.

Sam Gravitte, Princeton Class of 2017, is an actor and writer living in New York City. He starred as Fiyero in Wicked on Broadway, reopening the show in September 2021 after the theater industry’s eighteen-month Covid hiatus. Other professional credits include Almost Famous at the Old Globe Theatre, Joseph and… Dreamcoat at ACT, various workshops, and his solo show at the historic Birdland Jazz Club. He is a guitarist and a regular at music venues across New York City. At Princeton, Sam concentrated in Anthropology.
