Mukti and Meye-Hood, an original table reading

Theater&…the Bangladeshi Liberation War is a reading of a new play by Princeton senior Aneekah Uddin. In Mukti and Meye-Hood, audiences will experience three generations of Bangladeshi heritage come to life in an interactive table reading.

Delve into the journey of college freshman Nadia after her first semester at college, where she finds herself at odds with her mother, grappling with differing perspectives on womanhood and identity deeply rooted in the generational scars of the Bangladeshi Liberation War (1971). Amidst familial tensions simmering over dinner conversations, intertwined with the echoes of aunties’ gossip, Nadia embarks on a quest for self-discovery. Navigating through the complexities of familial relationships, Nadia confronts her ‘tiger mom’ and her elderly grandmother, realizing that true self-love and acceptance lie in embracing her Bangladeshi-American heritage.

This work not only explores the profound impact of the Bangladeshi Liberation War on familial dynamics but also dives into themes of diaspora experiences within South Asian communities, the intersection of religion and culture, the nuances of womanhood, and forming one’s identity.
