Student Eligibility for Lewis Center Summer Funding Awards
- The Alex Adam ’07 Award: All Princeton University first year students, sophomores, and juniors are eligible to receive this award.
- The Mary Quaintance ’84 Fund for the Creative Arts: This award is given to a student who has taken a course in creative writing or visual arts.
- The Peter B. Lewis Summer Fund, the Mellor Fund for Undergraduate Research, and the Sam Hutton Fund for the Arts: All Princeton University students who have taken or are currently taking a Lewis Center course (ATL, CWR, DAN, LCA, MTD, THR, VIS) are eligible for this funding.
- The Mallach Senior Thesis Fund: This award is given to a current junior who is minoring in a Lewis Center Program – Creative Writing, Dance, Theater & Music Theater, Visual Arts.
Application Requirements
Written Proposal
Please describe why you are requesting funding* from the Lewis Center. Your 1,000 word maximum proposal must include:
- Describe the original work that will evolve from your use of the funding
- Explain how your academic studies are related to this project
- Provide a financial budget and describe how you will use the funding
- Indicate if you have requested or received funding for this proposal from any other department
Students need not apply for any particular funding source when proposing a project. The committee will determine what funding source is used for each student’s project.
Supporting Document Requirements
- Creative Writing—Please submit a writing sample (PDF file) of no more than ten (10) pages of your best poetry, prose fiction (double-spaced), translation or screenwriting.
- Dance/Theater—Supporting materials to be furnished if needed, upon request from the committee.
- Visual Arts—Please attach a PDF file containing images of recent work with captions or provide links to 5 minutes of video or performance work uploaded to Vimeo or YouTube.
- All PDF files must be under 20 MB in size.
**Please Note: Any equipment purchased in relation to a project will remain property of the University.
