Theater Rehearsal and Performance

This course will be a focused rehearsal process, led by a faculty director, culminating in two weekends of public performances of The Winter’s Tale, conceived by Lear deBessonet with musical adaptation by Todd Almond. This Public Works project features a large cast of actors, singers, musicians and dancers, and plenty of offstage and backstage roles. Students interested in participating as performers, stage managers, musicians, musical directors, dramaturgs or designers should reach out to Shariffa Ali at Shariffa@princeton.edu, Elena Araoz at earaoz@princeton.edu, or Tess James at tj4@princeton.edu for more information. Most performing roles will be cast through our Try On Theater process on May 1; students will enroll in the course during add/drop.

Prerequisites and Restrictions

Students interested in participating as performers, or in dramaturgical or production roles should contact Shariffa Ali at Shariffa@princeton.edu or Elena Araoz at earaoz@princeton.edu for further information.

Other Information

Students in smaller roles will have limited rehearsals outside of class, students with larger roles must be able to commit to Saturday afternoon rehearsals and other evening rehearsals. This is an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Winter’s Tale for a large cast of singers, musicians, actors and dancers, set in two worlds — a steampunk world, and an Afro-futurist world. All participating students will be required to attend a weekend of technical rehearsals and one weekend of performances.
