The Program in Theater & Music Theater welcomes back alum Sam Gravitte ’17 (Wicked on Broadway) to offer a combination of bespoke coaching and class-format lectures. Classes will include workshops on Acting Through Song, On Camera Audition techniques, and a special day of Wicked original Broadway choreography. About Sam Gravitte ’17

Sam Gravitte is an actor and writer based in New York City. His professional theatre credits as an actor include playing “Fiyero” in Wicked on Broadway, reopening the show after the pandemic theatre hiatus. Other shows include Beautiful, Almost Famous, White Rose, Sweeney Todd, and more, along with various workshops and developmental labs with some of the industry’s leading talents and institutions like Classic Stage Company, Lincoln Center, Rattlestick Theater, and others. He is a producer of Pride Plays, a developmental program and festival with the mission to celebrate and platform queer works, introduce new voices to the theatrical ecosystem, and support the next generation of LGBTQIA+ artists. Sam’s play Hurricane was a 2024 semifinalist at the O’Neill National Playwrights Conference and was workshopped in summer 2024 at Studio Tisch. His play The Death Lectures was developed while he was in residence at Monson Arts. He has work published with Broadway Licensing and has commissions from The Licensing House. As a vocalist, Sam has headlined shows at the 92nd Street Y, Birdland Jazz Club, Provincetown, the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra, and more. While at Princeton, he received his AB in Anthropology along with certificates in theater and music theater, played lacrosse, was a Mathey RCA, and a proud member of Shere Khan. Sam is a Lifetime Member of The Actors Studio.

Class Descriptions
Acting Through Song Workshops (with accompanist)
Come work on audition cuts, dream roles, and concert work and sharpen the tools needed to nail the performance of a song. Understand beats, moment-before work, vocal technique, and more. Students should bring a song of their choice and sheet music for an accompanist. If you have trouble finding music, reach out to Sam by email at samgravitte@gmail.com and he can help.
Wicked Day!
Come spend One Short Day (well, an hour and a half) with Wicked alum and Broadway Fiyero Sam Gravitte. Learn original choreography from the Broadway show from numbers like “Dancing Through Life” and “One Short Day.” Wicked questions and curiosities are welcome! Students should wear clothing they feel comfortable moving in. Please note this workshop takes place in New South Theater Studio.
The Art of the Self Tape — On Camera Auditioning Workshop
The Self Tape is today’s cross-media standard for auditioning. In this masterclass, Sam helps develop a vocabulary around the camera in a way that builds technical mastery and dispels fears around on-camera auditions. Students will learn and leave with the real-world tips, tricks, and techniques that professional actors use every day. Students can bring their own material or use material distributed by Sam.

Each class is free and open to all Princeton students. All classes are drop-in; no registration required. No experience needed!
