Reading of a new play by Princeton alumna Kaelani Rae Burja ’23 written during a Martin A. Dale ’53 Fellowship. Upon her mother’s passing, Kaelani Rae discovers photographs that showcase her mother, Molley, boxing, dancing, and winning Miss Nude America 1985. Since Molley was sick for the majority of her daughter’s childhood, Kaelani Rae is stunned to see her mother in such a healthy, strong, youthful state. She has so many questions, but Kaelani Rae is scheduled to be on a plane to start college at Princeton with no time to ask any of them. How did Molley go from being on top of the world to spending the last decade of her life ill and isolated? Who was Molley in the nearly 40 years before her daughter was born? Directed by theater faculty member Vivia Font.
Supported through Princeton’s Office of International Programs’ Martin A. Dale ’53 Fellowship, which enables an outstanding Princeton senior to devote the year following graduation to an independent project of extraordinary merit that will widen the recipient’s experience of the world and significantly enhance his or her personal growth and intellectual development. The fellowship embodies the conviction of its donor, Martin A. Dale ‘53, of the transformative potential of a year-long project of focused effort and self-discovery before a new graduate embarks on the next major phase of life and career.
